Registry Mechanic has to be the most well known registry utility available today. But many times the most popular things are not the best and there are plenty of examples to back this. So this review was rather interesting as we wanted to see whether Registry Mechanic lives up to its popular reputation when performance in concerned. On that note, without any further ado, let us begin the review.
Registry Mechanic is Quick & Accurate:
The first time the program was launched, it started a scan automatically in order to find out the state of the registry system. The scan did not take much time at all and found a good number of errors in the registry. The speed with which it scanned the registry system was plain amazing. It clocked around the best time of registry scanners that we have reviewed.
Registry Mechanic is Easy to Use:
The interface looks somewhat dowdy. Although it is not bad in its own right, the interface of other scanners were better. There are basically three buttons of a large size in the center that say “Scan Your Registry”, “Optimize Your System” and “Compact Registry”. On the left hand side are options such as “Status” and “Backup”. We did not dare to do a complete Optimize Your System process as it did not present us with any controls nor did it provide any information as to what exactly it does. We only ran the basic scan and Compact Registry completely.
Registry Mechanic Gives You Repair Options:
One thing that some people may not like about this software is that once you press the button “Scan Your Registry”, the scan starts without any confirmation dialog box. But then, some might say that such confirmation messages are irritating. So it depends on which group of people you belong, whether you like the way this software operates. Once the scan starts, the process doesn’t take long and within a few minutes it reports errors if found. You can set the program to fix the errors automatically or repair individual registry manually. Those familiar with registry systems will find this option of manual repairing useful; at least we did.
Registry Mechanic Optimizes Your Registry:
The “Registry Compacting” options relocates registry entries in such a way that the gaps or wasted spaces between entries gets removed. This optimizes the performance if the computer. When the compacting process is running, the computer gets locked up in an idle state for a few minutes. Once it is over, the computer will return back to functional state. Compacting really boosted our PC’s performance beyond our expectation.
Registry Mechanic Does the Job:
This software is a good performer, make no mistake about it. The scanning and fixing is fast and accurate. The registry compacting feature is one found only on few registry cleaning software and has been implemented the best by this software. The interface is bland but not poor. It does lack a bit on help and information though. Still, this is indeed a solid piece of software. Registry Mechanic tied for second place in our (2010) annual registry cleaner reviews.
