Registry First Aid Review

Registry First Aid is software offered by Rose City Software which helps clean up or repair your Windows Registry.  The Microsoft Windows Registry is a database which saves variable options and settings for your Windows operating system. It also stores settings for applications running on your computer.

A damaged configuration file can effectively damage the Registry, and since all the pertinent information required to boot your computer is stored in the Registry, a damaged Registry effectively means that Windows might not boot successfully. Another more common problem is “software rot”. Basically, whenever we uninstall programs, any application without an uninstaller can often leave traces in the Registry, files which do not get removed, software etc. Over a period of time, this leads to software rot, as your Registry is cluttered with unnecessary remnants of older programs and incorrect code.

Registry First Aid is a software tailor made to remove this kind of clutter from your Registry and speed up your computer and your operating system. Registry First Aid version 7.1.1 is the latest variant of the program available. After downloading the Free Trail Version of Registry Free Aid, my Registry was cleaned in up quick time, with over 1500 pieces of unnecessary data cluttering up my computer removed or rewritten.

At first glance, Registry First Aid has a very user friendly interface (and by user friendly, I mean to the layman) which is easy to navigate. It comes with Registry defragmenting software, a tool to backup your configuration setting, and a search tool for your Registry. Simple enough for anyone to figure out. After scanning your Registry, Registry First Aid lists out every invalid setting found in your Registry with options informing you how to deal with them. The simpler errors which can be fixed were rewritten by the software immediately, leaving only the problems which might have been a threat to your Registry. These files can either be deleted or rewritten, but either option, at least to an inexperienced user comes with its hazards.

In this situation, the configuration back up tool on Registry First Aid really shows its worth. It is a simple matter to create a backup of your existing configurations, and then let the software either delete or rewrite the remaining errors based on its judgment. In case your computer refuses to boot, you can just revert to your backup, and start again.

In spite of reading mixed reviews about Registry First Aid, I decided to download the free trial and put it through its paces, and it did a satisfactory job cleaning up my Registry. The only point to remember is to ensure that you make a back up of your existing configuration before making any changes to your Registry which might affect how your Operation System boots. Once that is done, you can let Registry First Aid do its job, and watch as your computer speeds up considerably without redundant programs cluttering up your Registry.

Still, Registry First Aid did fall short in several departments when compared to Registry Booster 2011, the top registry repair software for 2011, and cannot hope to compete with Registry Booster which is a much more thorough and refined program.
