Among the many registry clean-up tools available, Advanced Registry Optimizer (ARO) is one of the more prominent. The basic job it does is scan for old and invalid registries and either fix them or remove them in order to maintain the integrity of the windows registry system. It has some really nice and useful features that will not only keep the registry system in order but also help in speeding up your system.
When you launch the application, the first thing you will notice is the nicely laid out controls with descriptions of the functions and the importance of the options. There is a prominent backup options that will encourage the technologically challenged to go ahead with registry clean-up. Besides, it will also remind the more computer-savvy the importance of backup as any tweaking of registry can lead to complications. The absence of restore and minimize buttons at the top-right corner is very conspicuous and something that the makers should have not overlooked.
The second option on the first screen is “Registry Cleaner and Optimizer”. This forms the core of this software. The registry cleaning engine of the Advanced Registry Optimizer comes to the fore when this option is selected. Before you start a scan of the registry, you can choose what part of the registry system you wish to exclude from the scan and which to include. If you are not too familiar with the registry system, it is best to just click the start button. Once started, it will scan for invalid and obsolete entries. If any registry is corrupted, ARO tries fixing it.
The third option on the first screen is the “Registry Defrager and Optimizer”. This is another very handy option. Many registry cleaners do not usually have this option. Defragmenting the registry system is quite like defragmenting the hard disk. It re-arranges the registry entries in such a way that the overhead time of the system is reduced and the performance increased.
The registry cleaner and optimizer is pretty fast in scanning and cleaning the registry. The process of scanning gets over in only a few minutes. However, this will depend on how frequently you clean the registry. There is a downside to the fast operation though; the scanning and fixing does take up considerable amount of processor time and RAM space. If you don’t have a big enough RAM, your system may slow down while the ARO does is job. Same is for registry defragmenting.
Overall, ARO is a nice and competent software that does its job pretty well. The user interface is quite intuitive barring the lack of restore and minimize buttons. In our trial runs, it performed very well and did speed up our system after we ran a scan and performed registry defragment. This software can be tried for free for the duration of 30 days. The software costs you about $29.50, which is a bit expensive to be honest. So although ARO is a strong contender for the coveted top position, the number 1 registry cleaner for 2010 is RegCure according to our registry cleaner review.
